Warner Bros. Pictures has released a trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the Rampage video game series.
Classic gaming fans may remember Rampage as the arcade video games series where you took control of one of a handful of monstrous creatures and unleashed havoc until unsuspecting cities, demolishing buildings and crushing people with reckless abandon. It was a series that was beloved for giving players a cathartic power fantasy while maintaining a surprisingly solid difficulty in spite of its premise. The first game, which the movie seems to be loosely adapting, featured George, Lizzie, and Ralph as the only monsters and offered little to no story.
The film seems to be set as an origin story of sorts for the monster, exploring how George, Lizzie, and Ralph came to be giant, rampaging monsters. It’s directed by Brad Peyton and stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Primatologist Davis Okoye. From the trailer it appears that it will largely focus on George and his relationship to Johnson’s character before eventually hitting the city destructive violence the games were known for.
The film is set to release on April 20th, 2018. Watch the full trailer below.
