You Can Cancel Rocket Punch

Recommended Videos

Unlike many other heroes in Overwatch, Doomfist can easily cancel his ability before committing to it. This means Doomfist introduces a certain element of mind games to Overwatch while also forcing players to think twice about their decision to use their Rocket Punch. Rocket Punch has to charge up if you want it to be a truly devastating attack that deals tons of damage while also shoving your enemies away from you. In some cases, however, you won’t want to commit to hurling yourself towards an enemy. It’s important that you cancel the ability if you realize it’s no longer safe to toss yourself closer to the enemy or if your chances of landing the attack have been significantly lowered.

Now, for the concept of mind games. With certain heroes it will be in your best interest to trick them into thinking you’re going to use Rocket Punch when you really have no intention on throwing yourself into the fray just yet. Force D.Va to throw up Defense Matrix or Orisa to use her Fortify before canceling the animation and using a different attack now that they have essentially wasted a key defensive ability. This also brings us to the next key thing to remember before you attempt to square up with enemies as Doomfist in Overwatch.
