Pokemon X & Y: How to Start a New Game

How to Start a New Game in Pokemon X & Y

Recommended Videos

If you’ve picked up a used copy of Pokemon X or Y, or you just want to start over on your adventure, you’ll need to know how to start a new game. In recent Pokemon titles, the option to simply start a new game from the menu has disappeared, and you’ll instead only be able to continue the progress of the current save file.

As such, you’ll need to delete and format Pokemon X or Y first before you can start over. To do this, once you’ve reached the title screen press Up on the D-pad, B, and X all at the same time. This should then ask you if you’d like to delete the existing save file. Confirm that this is what you want to do and the game will reboot. Once you reach the title screen this time around, you should have the option to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y.

If you’re having problems when entering the button sequence, try entering it as the opening cutscenes are playing, as some players have reported to have had more success this way.

That’s all you need to know to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y. Now get out there and catch ’em all!

More on Pokemon X & Y

Pokemon X & Y are the sixth installments in the immensely popular Pokemon series, taking players to the region of Kalos. Wannabe trainers will have the option of three entirely new starter Pokemon to choose from, as they embark on a quest to defeat the Pokemon League and become the Champion. Of course, just like every other Pokemon game, players will have to thwart the plans of the criminal gang known as Team Flare. Top it all off with 3D visuals that help to bring the Paris-inspired region of Kalos to life and you’ve got a recipe for another excellent Pokemon adventure.
