PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, month 3 update

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Surpasses 1.5 Million Concurrent Users

Accounting for ten percent of all Steam users.

Extremely popular multiplayer shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been getting no shortage of attention as of late, and if statistics from SteamCharts serve as any indication, the game could have just surpassed its own record for most concurrent users on Steam this past weekend.

Having had broken Dota 2’s milestone of 1,295,114 users only a couple of weeks ago, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had a staggering 1,523,179 concurrent users playing all at once just a couple of days ago. SteamCharts documents the title’s meteoric rise, stating that the game saw over 222,940 users join in on all the merriment in just the past 30 days alone.

In case you aren’t impressed, the latest SteamSpy figures reveal that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is, as expected, still going very strong sales-wise, having moved another estimated two million copies since it broke the ten million sales mark earlier this month on September 5. That brings the number up to a total of twelve million copies sold.

Last but not least, consider this: with Valve announcing recently that Steam had about 14 million concurrent users a day, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds accounted for over ten percent of all users all on its own.

In other PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds news, developer Bluehole called out Fornite’s Epic Games over the release of a very similar Battle Royale mode for the latter game. Though Bluehole respects Epic for Unreal Engine 4 (the engine in which Battlegrounds is made), the studio feels like Fortnite could be ripping off PUBG with the new mode, and as such could be causing damage to the brand.
