It’s German or Else in the Latest Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Trailer

Are you brushing up on your German?

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is going to be absolutely awesome. Part of that is because it’s Wolfenstein, and the other part is because of its genius marketing campaign. Bethesda has consistently released some awesome trailers surrounding the upcoming shooter, and to great effect. Its latest trailer is subtitled “German or Else!” and it’s framed around a terrifying vision of a game show.

Interspersed with snippets of actual gameplay, the video focuses more on a reality where Nazis have invaded and are essentially forcing everyone to learn German, hence the name of the show. You’ve got one opponent who clearly knows his stuff, and one who’s not doing so well. I won’t ruin what happens to the loser, because you really just need to watch the trailer for yourself. It’ll only take a couple minutes of your time.

The kind of kitschy television-themed ads that Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus has taken to is absolutely genius, and chilling in a way that regular gameplay footage just can’t match most of the time. It’s also far more creative and doesn’t have to rely on angsty, slowed-down versions of popular songs to drive its point home.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus launches on October 27 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. That should be plenty of time to reach partial German fluency, right?
