Ubisoft has just revealed their new logo, marking a “new era” for them in the world of entertainment. The logo, deemed “The Swirl” is an evolution of their pre-existing logo, but with more of a focus on minimalism, with a modern twist. Definitely not as vibrant as their old logo, but they explain it in a way that’s much more elegant than I ever could.
“The swirl and the letter O are both deliberately created to be reminiscent of hand-drawn shapes and represent our human qualities of enthusiasm, curiosity and the grain de folie that Ubisoft is known for.”
Along with the announcement of their new logo, Ubisoft shared with us it’s journey from 1986 to current day, on the aspect of logo’s that is. Looking at their logo’s evolution since Ubisoft’s birth, you can’t help but notice how it has consistently become less colorful. To be fair, they did describe their 80’s design as being “rad” so we can only imagine what kind of headspace they were in during that time period.
Nevertheless, the Swirl marks a bright (figuratively and not literally of course) future for Ubisoft as they embrace their role as a creator of worlds in video games, movies, tv shows, comics and other areas of entertainment.
This logo change couldn’t come at a better time considering that E3 2017 is just around the corner. You can expect to see some confused faces at the Ubisoft conference from people that didn’t catch the news.
