Blizzard released the new map Horizon Lunar Colony for Overwatch today. The map is only playable through the game’s public testing region (PTR) servers on PC.
Teased earlier this week, Horizon Lunar Colony is an Assault map that takes place on a scientific base on the Moon and was meant to “examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike.” Blizzard released a short preview trailer showing off the new location, posted below, with the character Winston narrating his ties to the moon base.
“The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost,” reads the map’s official description. “Now, many years later, attacking and defending teams must return to the moon and battle for control of the colony’s facilities, all while they discover clues as to the fate of its previous inhabitants.”
Blizzard did not announce a release date when Horizon Lunar Colony will be added to the main game on PC and consoles, but past maps usually release a few weeks after appearing on the PTR. In the meantime, Overwatch is currently celebrating its first anniversary with an event containing over 100 new items and the fifth competitive season for its competitive mode begins today.
