Persona 5: How to Unlock Merciless Difficulty

Not for the faint of heart.

Merciless Difficulty in Persona 5

Recommended Videos

Persona 5 is a pretty challenging turn-based RPG in its own right, but for enthusiasts who want to put themselves through a much tougher time, Atlus has provided a new Merciless difficulty mode as DLC. To unlock this mode, simply download the DLC through the PSN Store from your PS4 or your web browser. After downloading and installing it, boot up the game as per usual, and you’ll be able to access it in your menu.

Hit the triangle button to open your menu, go to the System tab, and select Config. At the bottom of this menu, you’ll have the option to change the game’s difficulty. Select Merciless, then hit Ok at the bottom of the screen. You’ll now be playing the game in Merciless difficulty. However, be warned that this difficulty setting is not for the faint of heart. Enemies will take much less damage, and they’ll also hit a lot harder. You’ll need to have a good grasp of your party’s strengths and weaknesses, while also making sure that you’re able to effectively hit enemy weak points at the same time. If it proves to be too challenging, you can always change the difficulty back to Normal.
