How to Shield Surf – Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Link has often used his shield for protection, but in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, he can use it to surf down slopes and mountains. It’s tons of fun, if a little dangerous, so we’ll walk you through how to shield surf in the game.

First off, you’ll need a shield. You can get one of these from an enemy in the game. Simple defeat them, then grab their equipment. Once you’ve got your gear, you can then equip the shield, and then press ZL to hold it up, as if you were going to block something. Once you’ve done this, hit A to shield surf. Link will hop on and start surfing down whatever surface you’re facing. For extra fun, hit Y to do tricks.

Keep in mind that your equipment does suffer durability damage in Breath of the wild, and so your shield can break while you’re surfing. If this happens, you’ll violently tumble down the hill, so keep an eye out… for safety.
