Luckily, upgrading buildings is very simple. All you need to do is click into its wheel by pressing A, and look at the various options you have available. In the case of simple buildings such as the Supply Pad or Harvester, the only option you have is to upgrade the building. Upgrades generally use up a lot of Power, so make sure you are generating enough of that. Some buildings have other options beyond just upgrading such as training units but obviously, you’re going to want to choose the option to upgrade. Upgrading your main base and outposts in particular is crucial to the mid-late game as you won’t be able to build certain buildings/units until you do. So be sure not to forget.

The best time to upgrade your buildings is dependent on what your opponent is doing, so be sure to scout. If you see your opponent is playing passively or defensively, you can use that opportunity to invest in building upgrades to get an edge later on. However, if your opponent is preparing to act aggressively, you may want to hold off upgrading until you have an adequate defense.
