Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are two games that plenty of gamers are looking forward to. Given that they had footage shown off over the last few years, one would think that either or both games would see 2017 releases, but director Tetsuya Nomura isn’t entirely sure about that. While speaking with Famitsu, Nomura indicated that both titles are still a ways off from release.
Speaking about Kingdom Hearts III specifically, Nomura said that there are worlds “still untouched…production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off.” Final Fantasy 7 Remake, meanwhile, said production is “progressing steadily.” While the wait for both games will be “a bit longer” and he’s sorry to be the bearer of this news, he stressed that “we will make a game that will meet your expectations.”
Tetsuya Nomura also stated that he wanted Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 to make appearances at gaming events this year to showcase the progress that’s been made on both titles. Neither game was shown off at any event in 2016, but Nomura wants to show off the progress at some point this year. Whether that’s at E3, PSX, or whatever else, he doesn’t know.
Kingdom Hearts III is set to arrive on the PS4 and Xbox One, while Final Fantasy 7 Remake will come to the PS4.
