Jimmy Fallon Surprised by Nintendo with Playable Switch and Zelda

"I am geeking out right now!"

Tonight, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aimé appeared on The Tonight Show to debut Super Mario Run live gameplay for the first time. What host Jimmy Fallon didn’t see coming was Fils-Aimé’s “one more thing:” a playable Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

A model sat in front of the two that had both a Switch and the Joy-Con Grip controller beside it, though Fils-Aimé unpocketed a Switch Pro Controller to play on the big screen. “I cannot wait for this…I’ve watched the commercial online probably a million times,” Fallon said.

Panning around Link to the open world ahead, Fils-Aimé said, “what’s neat about this is anywhere you see, you can get to.” He continued the demonstration by showing off Breath of the Wild’s new physics-heavy world with a rolling boulder that tumbled into explosive barrels and crisped a group of enemies.

Fils-Aimé then displayed the instant portable mode of the Switch by lifting the machine out of the dock and handing it over to Fallon. It’s not completely clear if it was a genuine transition and not some presentation “magic,” but the display successfully communicated the main ideas behind the console.
