Power Up Gaming reports the title for the next installment in the Need for Speed series may have been revealed following a trademark filed by EA.
According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, Need for Speed: Arena has been trademarked in Nice classes 9 and 41 on November 7, 2016. Without delving too deep into the classification system, these codes largely represent video game software and online video games, as the aforementioned Power Up Gaming states.
For a while, Need for Speed got stuck in the drag of annual franchise releases, which resulted in series fatigue reminiscent to the Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty series. EA has since broken that circle, with its 2015 Need for Speed reboot having received mixed reviews.
Little else is known about the trademark for now, and nothing is set in stone just yet since the EUIPO is still examining the application. Whatever it may be, we reckon more will be revealed soon.
