Hip-hop group Run the Jewels are now playable characters in Gears of War 4. The rap duo, consisting of El-P and Killer Mike, lent their likenesses and did voice-work for their characters in the game.
The Run the Jewels Air Drop DLC contains the two playable characters to use in competitive and Horde multiplayer modes as well as 18 new weapon skins, emblems, and bounties. The whole package costs $19.99 and is available today, Nov. 1.
“This is the first time two recording artists have been reimagined as playable characters in the Gears of War franchise or any Xbox game,” writes Director of Community Adam Fletcher, “The brotherhood that Killer Mike and El-P represent as Run the Jewels perfectly matches the soul of Gears, which at its core is about that brotherhood and never fighting alone.”
You can check out their characters in action in the video below.
Run the Jewels previously lent their song, “Panther Like A Panther,” for the Horde 3.0 trailer before the game’s launch. The song is from their upcoming album Run the Jewels 3, which is expected to release by the end of this year. The group announced a 2017 tour and you can check out the official Run the Jewels website for more information on dates and tickets.
The characters arrive alongside the first title update for Gears of War 4, which includes new maps, weapon tuning, and various bug fixes for both Xbox One and Windows 10 versions. The new maps, Checkout and Drydock, are returning from Gears of War 3 and playable right now for Season Pass holders, while everyone else will have to wait until Nov. 8.
