Game development company Double Fine, the studio behind titles like Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet, have announced that they will be publishing the adorable, hand-painted, co-op, action-adventure title, Knights and Bikes.
Knights and Bikes will be the first game from development studio Foam Sword. Set in the late 1980s, Knights and Bikes comes from the minds of Rex Crowle (Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet) and Moo Yu (LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank), and draws inspiration from SNES titles like Earthbound and ’80s films like The Goonies.
Foam Sword had the project successfully funded on Kickstarter in March 2016 with over £100,000 donated. However, there are still stretch goals the studio is trying to reach, including online co-op if they reach £120,000, and full English voice-acting for all major characters if £150,000 is earned. You can check out their KickStarter page here.
In a new trailer seen below, we get a closer look at the games protagonists, Nessa and Demelza. These two are trying to decipher the medieval legends of Penfurzy, an island off the coast of Cornwall that is in deep financial trouble after a particularly bad tourist season.
Knights and Bikes art style is both intriguing and charming. The hand-painted aesthetic infuses a storybook-like style to both the world and its characters, invoking a feeling of childhood exploration. Also, Demelza has a pet goose name Captain Honkers who follows you around, and that’s super cute.
Knights and Bikes is set for release in April 2017 on PlayStation 4, Mac, PC, and Linux.
