Sombra is a name which, when uttered among Overwatch fans may cause much distress. Blizzard seem to be playing some kind of Alternate-Reality Game trick on us about a new hacker character who, until today, we haven’t actually seen.
Today’s leak comes from a Russian Overwatch group, with the post ending up on reddit. The post shows off a cropped picture of a computer screen with a very realistic looking still of a character that looks like she would fit the bill.
Sombra is shown wearing a purple futuristic trenchcoat, augmented hands with pointy nails and a cool submachine gun. The text below gives us some well-needed backstory on this character. (I’ve edited the text gaps with what I think should be there)
Sombra is one of the world’s best and most notorious hackers. As a child she lost everything during the Omnic Crisis. She worked with the Los Muertos gang in Mexico.. until she attracted too much unwanted attention and had to go underground. During that time, she upgraded her augmentations and was recruited by the mysterious Talon organization.
Neat backstory, and one that definitely seems plausible in the world of Overwatch.
This leak also produced some information about the upcoming Halloween event. You may have seen this tweet yesterday showing off a new Overwatch comic with some great themed character skins.
Well, in the Sombra leak above, some of the text states “Protect the castle doors from the Zomnics and Dr. Junkenstein’s evil allies” and “Three different difficulties, the harder the difficulty, the more points you can earn!”
This all points to a Mann Vs Machine style horde mode coming to Overwatch in this purported Halloween update, the comic also being called ‘Junkenstein’. It can be speculated that it would take place on Eichenwalde (castle) and that the points earned from the mode may go towards levelling up or even the Halloween loot boxes which leaked three days ago.
Again, this is all of course rumoured with nothing yet confirmed by Blizzard, but this new event and the supposed Sombra look incredibly exciting! For more Overwatch news, keep it locked right here at Twinfinite.
