NieR: Automata was featured at Sony’s TGS press conference a couple of days ago, but Square Enix and Platinum Games have released yet another trailer for the game during the event. You can check out the new trailer down below.
Famitsu previously revealed some character details, and we found out that Automata will see the return of some familiar faces including Emil, Devola, and Popola. This new trailer offers a formal introduction to the characters we’ll encounter in the game, along with a couple of mystery figures. What’s most interesting is the tattoo we see on the shirtless male character. It looks an awful lot like the symbol of the Cult of the Watchers, a group formed by one of the key characters from the Drakengard series, which NiER originally spun off from.
It also looks like Devola and Popola are back with new hairdos this time around. Considering the nature of their roles from the first game, it should be interesting to see how they impact the story in this one. Director Yoko Taro hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it is possible that the Devola and Popola we see here might not be the same girls we knew from the previous entry.
NieR: Automata is set to be released for the PS4 on February 23, 2017 in Japan. It has also been slated for an early 2017 release in North America.
