Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn puts players in the shoes of Aloy, a young woman living in the distant future where animal-like machines have taken over the world. You may think that you know the way the story will play out just from that description above, but according to the developers, no one’s been right so far.
While speaking with Game Informer as part of the monthly cover issue, Guerrilla went into the lore of the game and how Aloy will eventually discover why the machines have taken over. Lead writer John Gonzalez spoke briefly about how the player will find certain artifacts that provide background information on the rise of the machines. “The question of why is it that these machines have shapes and forms that remind us of the wildlife we see in our world, or sometimes in the history of our world, have been factored into the ecology.”
The folks at Guerrilla also said that no one has come close to correctly guessing the path the story will take, or any of the surprises in store. All they said was that they hope the answers “aren’t what you’re expecting.”
Horizon Zero Dawn comes to the PS4 on Feb. 27, 2017.
