Overwatch’s game director Geoff Goodman recently revealed over on the Overwatch forums that the games resident robot monk, Zenyatta, will be getting nerfed soon while also noting that other heroes would see changes as well.
Geoff Goodman announced the Zenyatta nerfs, ironically enough, on a thread titled “Don’t Nerf Zenyatta,” where he noted that while he is playing a little better nowadays their feedback has shown that he may be a little too strong at the moment. Because of this, Goodman noted that “at this point we’re looking likely to reduce some of his power in an upcoming patch, probably related to his Discord Orb.”
Zenyatta wasn’t the only hero mentioned in the forum post either, as Goodman revealed that the team were looking at Mercy and Mei too. Starting with Mei, Goodman believes that she isn’t “super far off” being competitively viable and they are currently looking to improve her ultimate in testing so it can pierce barriers like Reinhardt’s shield.
Goodman also commented on the many ways the team has been trying to change Mercy. He would “love to give her damage buffing alternate fire more power,” but when they tried doing so too many degenerating cases popped up. He also gave examples of skills they practiced giving her such as a slow heal but that design “ended up having some issues, but just so you know we are iterating on her internally.” Goodman finished talking about possible changes to Mercy by stating “that said, there are some things we can do to help her out in the near future.”
