Pokemon GO has been in the spotlight a lot this past week, but it hasn’t been for all of the joy and fun that surrounded the game’s amazing launch. After a recent patch, many fans are upset at the fact that tracking still doesn’t work and that third party support, such as PokeVision, has been stripped away. Afterwards, things were looking good again as some players managed to catch a few legendary Pokemon including Articuno.
Unfortunately, those legendary Pokemon weren’t supposed to appear just yet. One user claimed that she had received it as a gift from Niantic after dealing with multiple issues concerning the Pokemon GO app, which the developers denied today. After denying having anything to do with players receiving these powerful beasts, they’ve gone a step further and stripped them away. It turns out that no legendary Pokemon are supposed to be available just yet, and players who managed to capture them did so only because a mistake happened. Niantic provided a comment on the situation to GameSpot earlier today:
“We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokemon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have,” Niantic said. “To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokemon from the Trainers’ accounts.”
It’s not clear if any of the players who were just relieved of their amazing catches will receive something else in return. It’s cool that Niantic wants to keep things level, but it must certainly sour the experience for those who finally found something to be excited about with the currently struggling game.
