Fans were left scratching their heads last month when an announcement on Sony’s Japanese website, listing Driveclub VR as a PSVR launch title, appeared and was then quickly taken back down. Now we have official word as to when we can expect to get behind the wheel of Sony’s racer. Though not listed as a launch title, Driveclub VR is confirmed for a 2016 release date.
Posting on the PlayStation Blog, Nico Orru, Principal Programer at Sony’s Immersive Technology Group, explains, “We’ve been working tirelessly on Driveclub VR for more than a year now, to bring you the definitive and most immersive Driveclub experience possible.” The VR version will include five new urban tracks, in addition to classic Driveclub tracks, and new game modes.
Cruise Mode will allow you to explore any track at your leisure, while Passenger Mode, an “immersive thrill ride,” will let you sit in and experience replays of hot laps. The game will also include a full singleplayer campaign, time trails, drifting, and online multiplayer.
“We’re passionate about trying to create the most memorable and exhilarating gaming experiences possible,” Orru says. VR “not only allows players to truly feel the incredible speed, sensation, and precision of driving some of the world’s most exotic high-performance cars, but also the chance to race against or with one another in a completely new way.”
While there is still no firm release date, look for Driveclub VR, hopefully, soon after PlayStation VR launches Oct. 13.
