When Crackdown 3, Scalebound, and Halo Wars 2 were all first announced at different conferences, they were expected to release this year. Now, all three of them have been delayed to 2017, with the latter being the only one with a confirmed release date. In an interview with DualShockers, marketing head Aaron Greenberg spoke about their process for their upcoming slate of games. The three games were delayed for two reasons; one being just development changes, and the other to make sure that they wouldn’t get crowded out by other games releasing this fall.
Between Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, ReCore, and Dead Rising 4 (plus third party titles like Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1), he feels that there’s “more than enough games”. Greenberg used Halo Wars as an example: “We did not need to force it into an already crowded holiday season, so to have it in February was a very deliberate decision about when that title made sense.” They’ll be making the same evaluations with the other games as well, and he hopes that they’ll be “a little more thoughtful” about spreading out the releases of their games throughout the year.
Halo Wars 2 releases for the Xbox One and PC on Feb. 17, 2017. Crackdown 3 and Scalebound have no current release dates.
