The Last Guardian has been a long time coming, originally announced at E3 in 2009 with a release date of 2011. The game is designed and directed by Fumito Ueda, the famed creator of both Ico and Shadow of the Collossus. At last year’s E3 the project finally became a reality again at Sony’ press conference, and now the game is right around the corner with a release date of October 25, 2016.
The PlayStation 4 exclusive centers around a young boy who encounters a giant bird/cat creature named Trico, after he’s been kidnapped and taken to a strange unknown castle. The boy saves Trico from captivity, and the pair begin working together to make it out of this dangerous situation. The Last Guardian looks like it could evoke some of the similar emotions of Ueda’s last two games, and much of it is themed around the growing releationship between the boy and Trico.
The standard version of the game will release exclusively on PS4 for $59.99. There is a Collector’s Edition of the game available as well for $119.99. This package includes; a premium Steelbook case with the game, 72-page artbook, 10 -song digital soundtrack, sticker sheet, collector’s box and a premium statue of Trico and the boy.
