Nintendo announced just over a year ago that it had partnered with Universal Studios in order to begin work on opening a Nintendo theme park. This is no small undertaking and, even if everything went smoothly, it would still be years before the park would open.
According to Nintendo Life, the theme park is aiming to be built by the 2020 Summer Olympics which will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan. The theme park will also be located in Tokyo and has already exceeded $500 million in investments. As Nintendo Everything reports, this is even more than the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, USA.
It has already been confirmed that the park will feature a Mario-themed area, but other IPs are yet to be announced for the project. We only guess at what other Nintendo IPs will be featured, such as The Legend of Zelda or Star Fox, but more news is expected to be announced later this year.
No doubt many fans of Nintendo would be very happy to see these plans come to fruition, and the park would certainly attract gamers from around the world. Having it open before the 2020 Olympics would be a great way to give the park a huge boost in visitors.
