The Pokemon GO craze really has taken hold of the entire world. A man in New Zealand has quit his job in order to pursue his dream of being the very best trainer in the world. Like no one ever was. 24 year-old Tom Currie downloaded the app, handed in his resignation, and embarked on a journey to travel to different places and catch all kinds of Pokemon.
“When I resigned, I didn’t tell my manager I was going out into the world to hunt Pokemon,” the 24-year-old Aucklander told Newsbeat. “But after my story got picked up I gave him a courtesy call to update him just in case the media contacted him. I got an absolutely lovely response, ‘Good on you Tom. It is really funny. I hope everything is OK. Have fun for your Pokemon trip.’”
Naturally, Currie’s parents were a little surprised by his decision, though their attitudes quickly changed when they realized how much “positive press” he was getting from this bold venture.
Pokemon GO is now available on iOS and Android devices in North America, New Zealand, Australia, and most countries in Europe.
