Konami did it first, and now Square Enix is doing it too. All the cool kids are getting into the pachinko business.
In all seriousness though, it looks like Square Enix might be trying to diversify their business and expand a little by exploring the pachinko market. In a report from Hachima, via Siliconera, Square Enix will be taking its first steps into the business with Star Ocean 4 and Lords of Vermillion.
‘While not much else is known about the company’s new venture, a new trademark by Square Enix has already been filed for “The Last Hope,” and its registration shows slot machines, slot machine housing, pachinko appliances and more. So basically, all that’s missing is an official announcement and reveal.’
Considering the apparent profitability of the pachislot market, it isn’t all that surprising to see Square Enix trying this out, and it would be even less surprising to see other Japanese developers follow suit too. Now it’s only a matter of time before we see a Final Fantasy pachinko machine.
