Nintendo had a few new details to share during their Treehouse Live event about the sequel to last year’s charming 3DS game Yo-Kai Watch. Yo- Kai Watch 2 kicks things up for the series by providing an even larger world for players to explore that feels more like an open world, along with larger scale battles and plenty of side activities. The new game will include even more Yo-Kai for players to interact with, and delve into the origins of the Yo-Kai Watch itself. Some of the new “Classic Yo-Kai” are based off of Japanese mythology or culture.
The development team has strived even more to make the battles of the sequel more interactive and engaging, and wants players to take an active role. The story of the game involves Nate and Whisper traveling back through time to meet Nate’s grandfather, and use a Yo-Kai named Neodox to travel back and forth between the two timelines.
Yo-Kai Watch 2 also has a new four player co-op mode, that has players taking the role of different classes of actual Yo-Kai and battling it out. Take a look at the new trailer for the game down below.
Yo-Kai Watch 2 launches on September 30 in the U.S. exclusively for the 3DS. The game will be available in two different versions, Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls. Similarly to the Pokemon games, each version will have exclusive Yo-Kai that can only be found within that version. A new toy line for the series will also be launching in North America this fall, including the newly desinged Yo-Kai Watch Model Zero.
