The new installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Infinite Warfare, will feature an “original cooperative Zombies mode” alongside the campaign and multiplayer components of the game.
Infinity Ward’s Director of Communications, Eric Monacelli, announced the news in a post on the PlayStation Blog, explaining that the mode will take “players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics.”
This marks a first for Infinity Ward, who have previously tried to ape Treyarch’s popular arena mode with other co-operative experiences, such as the “Extinction” campaign in Call of Duty: Ghosts, which replaced zombies with aliens.
In 2014, Sledgehammer Games were the second studio to try their hand at Zombies mode, with a new take on the experience that featured faster, more agile exo-suit zombies.
No other information has yet been given about Infinity Ward’s upcoming Zombies content, with Monacelli explaining that “more details about multiplayer and the new zombies experience will be announced at a later date”.
