Project Setsuna Hits PS4 and Vita in Early 2016

It's like the PS1 era all over again.

At E3 earlier this year, Square Enix annouced that Tokyo RPG factory, a studio set up entirely for the creation of new JRPGs, would be making a game tentatively known as Project Setsuna, due out in 2016.

Today, during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference, Square Enix showed off a little bit more of the game, announcing it’ll be releasing on PS4 and Vita early next year, and officially giving it a Japanese title, Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna.

It appears to be a standard looking JRPG, ala Bravely Default, though with a combat system that appears most reminiscent of Chrono Trigger. The game seems to be hearkening back to what many felt was Square Enix’s greatest era, and so far, at least, it looks genuinely lovely.

No release date has been given for the West as of yet, but 2016 is a safe bet, here’s hoping we get it fairly close to the Japanese release date, as well.

It’s really nice to see that Tokyo RPG Factory is working on projects like this. It looks like a low budget affair, but the team involved seems really passionate about the whole project, and it’s great to see that a huge company like Square Enix has set up a division entirely to make this. Tokyo RPG Factory looks to be a studio to keep an eye on in the coming years.
