When pre-orders went live for Sony’s PlayStation VR, the demand was much higher than expected, according to PlayStation Europe boss, Jim Ryan.
In an interview with MCV, Ryan said: “The news overnight on pre-orders is extremely encouraging, but I’d be very wary about extrapolating how we’ll do through to launch based on less than 24 hours. I would say that the early pre-orders have surpassed our initial expectations. So that suggests demand, and therefore day one, might be quite significant.”
It was announced by Sony that the PlayStation VR would be released in October and would not include the PlayStation Camera or Move controller. As a result, these two items have also had a large increase in sales. Since the initial announcement, Sony has revealed that a PlayStation VR bundle will be available in North America which will include the PlayStation Camera, two Move controllers and a physical copy of PlayStation VR Worlds. However, this did sell out pretty darn quickly when it was available for pre-order on Tuesday.
VR technology like this is still pretty new and whether it will be around to stay is anyone’s guess. However, it certainly looks like there is a lot of interest in the feature based on how fast it’s selling out.
