Almost a month ago, the developers behind The Culling, Xaviant Games, announced that a sequel, The Culling 2, was on its way. Well, The Culling 2 has been on the market for two days and its numbers aren’t looking great.
Back in December of last year, Xaviant Games pulled the plug on the battle royale shooter, The Culling. This came as a surprise as the game had just launched out of its tumultuous early access period two months prior. At the time, it seemed that Xaviant Games were dropping out of the battle royale race.
Then, on June 14, the studio surprised everybody and announced The Culling 2. This sequel launched two days ago and already, the game has dipped to just one single player on PC.
At the time of this writing, that number still stands. This number especially spells doom for the game considering that to even play a match, 50 players are needed. So far, the max concurrent number of players logged into the game is 249, with eight being the largest number of people playing the game concurrently in the last 24 hours, according to the Steam Charts for the game.
The Culling 2 was never going to be as popular as PUBG or Fortnite, but still, 249 concurrent players is extremely low. There are a number of factors that could have contributed to this, but the highest among them has to be the timing of The Culling 2’s launch. Just today, Fortnite launched its fifth season, meaning hordes and hordes (literally millions and millions) of players will be flocking to the party bus to drop into the popular battle royale shooter from Epic Games. This leaves little room for another battle royale game such as The Culling 2 to make an impact at all.
Maybe in the coming days, when the Fortnite Season 5 hype dies down, The Culling 2 will find its numbers higher than 249.
