What Steelix’s Weakness Is in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Sometimes, it’s not immediately obvious how to approach battles against certain opponents. Modern games in the series will let you know which moves are effective, super effective, and not very effective against a Pokemon after you’ve encountered it at least once. For those who don’t know, or can’t remember, here’s what Steelix’s weakness is in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Steelix’s Weakness in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Steelix is a dual Steel/Ground-type, which means that it’s weak to Fighting, Ground, Fire, and Water-type moves. Its defensive typing also makes it immune to Electric and Poison, while also making it resistant to Normal, Flying, Steel, Bug, Psychic, Dragon, and Fairy. On top of that, it’s even more resistant to Rock-type, cutting the power of those moves down to 25% of their original strength.

Fighting a Steelix can become even trickier if it has the Study ability, which prevents it from getting one-hit KOd whenever it has full HP. This means that if its trainer uses a healing item to restore the Pokemon to full health, Sturdy can activate again.

If you’re looking to take on Flint’s Steelix when challenging the Sinnoh Elite Four, be aware that it knows Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Crunch, and Iron Tail, so plan accordingly to take advantage of its weaknesses while being aware of your own.

How to Get Steelix

You can get a Steelix of your own by catching Onix and trading it while it’s holding the Metal Coat item, which can be obtained in the house on Iron Island. Byron will give it to you after you’ve obtained the National Dex.

That’s everything you need to know about Steelix’s weaknesses in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Be sure to check out our guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and other useful info on the game if you’re looking for more pointers.
