Catching Giratina in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Fortunately getting your very own Giratina isn’t particularly difficult, it’s just a bit time-consuming. For starters, you will need to have beaten the game and obtained the National Dex. That’s not something you can avoid unless you plan to just trade for one.

Just a few tips: first, make sure you have lots of Ultra and Timer Balls and a Pokemon or two that can lay down status effects such as Paralyze or Sleep. Giratina might not catch easily and you don’t want to be in a situation where you have to start over. Also, consider bringing Super Repels in case you’re not interested in finding a bunch of wild Pokemon along the way. Finally, make sure your team is at least in its 60s as Giratina will be level 70. You wouldn’t want to lose the fight — that would be embarrassing.

Once you’ve done all that, and are ready to begin the process of finding and catching Giratina, fly to Veilstone City. Then, head out through the south exit to route 214 and reach the Spring Path. If you’re having any trouble finding Spring Path (or anything else in this guide) this handy video guide from Austin John Plays, can serve as a great visual reference. Otherwise, if you know where you’re going and just want the TLDW, continue reading.

This is the exact location of the Spring Path on Route 214, and it’ll open up after you’ve obtained the National Dex:

Once in the Spring Path, follow it along until you reach Turnback Cave. Turnback Cave can be a little confusing at first. Once you enter the main lobby with the multiple branching paths, simply just choose a path and you’ll enter another room.

If the room you enter has a pillar in it, examine it. You’ll need to examine three pillars in total within 30 room entrances to be taken to the room with Giratina in it. To our knowledge and from our experience, there is no set path that will get you the three pillars. It’s completely random.

Just keep entering rooms until you see a pillar, examine it, and then carry on. When you finally get to three pillars within 30 rooms, you’ll just need to keep going through the room until you are automatically taken to a new route which will lead you to Giratina.

Save your game, obviously, in case you mess up or want to shiny hunt, and go ahead and battle the Ghost/Dragon Pokemon. Best of luck!
