Rise of the Tomb Raider Will Feature 300 Cards Purchasable Through Microtransactions

Lara stop eyeing my wallet.

Here’s hoping you don’t mind the idea of microtransactions because in a recent interview with Xbox Wire, Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Creative Director Noah Hughes revealed that the game will include 300 Expedition Cards, which can be bought with real world money.

According to Noah Hughes, these Expedition Cards will have a variety of effects on game modes outside the single player mode. These cards will come in two types called Foil and Common, with the Foil cards having “the strongest or strangest variations” and can be used as often as you like. Common cards meanwhile can only be used once so you’ll need to buy them again to reuse the effects.

These Expedition Cards will have a variety of effects ranging from comical with “Big Head Mode” to others that “can increase the challenge or give you special advantages.”

Players will be able to buy these cards using either real-world money or by using in-game credit earned by completing challenges and exploring the world.

Before Noah Hughe officially announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will feature microtransactions, they were leaked on the Xbox Live Store, revealing that the cards will be bought in packs of five.

So what do you think about the news that Rise of the Tomb Raider will feature 300 microtransaction possibilities on launch? Let us know in the comments below.
