Nintendo Reveals More Details for Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

Rosalina is stepping onto court.

Nintendo has released some new information for their upcoming title Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash for the Wii U.

For starters, Nintendo has revealed that Rosalina will be joining the game’s roster of characters which currently includes the likes of Boo, Waluigi, and Bowser. They also noted that the game will include Amiibo support which will allow players to team with one during doubles matches and take on the Knockout Challenge mode.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will also include a new move called Ultra Smash that sends players into the air as they  smash the ball down with a spectacular move as well as a new feature called Chance Areas. These Chance Areas will appear randomly during matches and standing in one will allow players to unleash “super-strong smash or bamboozling slices to flummox adversaries.”

Nintendo also revealed that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will include an online mode which will allow players to take each other on in both competitive ranked and casual matches. Two players will also be able to team up in the online mode and it also includes Amiibo support.

Besides the online mode, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will also include the following modes:

  • Knockout Mode: Tense tiebreak matches against increasingly difficult computer-controlled opponents await in this single-player mode.
  • Mega Battle: After grabbing a Mega Mushroom, characters grow to gigantic proportions and can dominate the court with their increased power and range.
  • Classic Tennis: For those who prefer their tennis a little more traditional, Classic Tennis offers two variations: Standard mode features Chance Shots and Jump Shots but no Mega Mushrooms, while Simple puts competitors on the court with nothing but the net and the ball.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is due out on Nov. 20 and during its first week of sales, players who buy the game will also get a code for Mario Tennis on the N64 for the Virtual Console.
