Last fall Gun Media announced their game called Summer Camp. It evoked the tone and many of the feelings that old slasher films like Friday the 13th give off. Since then the studio has been relatively quiet on the project.
Apparently after Summer Camp had been announced Sean Cunningham, the creator of Friday the 13th personally reached out to Gun. He wanted to make the game bigger, and surprisingly make it an official Friday the 13th game starring Jason Voorhees himself.
The game will focus on a one-versus-seven experience. With one player controlling Jason, and the other seven trying to survive the onslaught as camp counselors. Players can work together to either escape Jason or take him down, which is sure to be much harder than it sounds.
“While Jason can be an immensely daunting, seemingly unstoppable force, he is able to be brought down with an ‘epic’ win condition. It’ll be difficult, require some teamwork, and perhaps a bit of ingenuity, but we’ll be giving you the tools and opportunities to realize the biggest win in horror gaming.” says the game’s Kickstarter page.
Counselors play differently from Jason, with unlockable characters and a progression system as well as a fear system that players will have to mitigate during gameplay. The team has also brought the original actor for Jason on board, Kane Hodder. He’ll be bringing a team of stunt performers with him to record the authentic brutality of Jason for the game.
Gun Media is currently asking for $700,000 for the crowdfunding campaign. A projected release window of October 2016 has been given for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Right now the game is a multiplayer only title, however Gun has proposed a single player portion that will put you in the eyes of Jason, if the campaign sees enough support.
