Well, this is interesting. For the first time in series history, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will let players skip to the end of the campaign if they choose. When you put the disc in the game, all of the campaign levels will be unlocked from the start, and if you’re so inclined, you could just play the final level of the game. Treyarch’s campaign lead Jason Blundell explained why this feature was added in:
“It gives them the flexibility to consume the content how they want. The unlocking level system is an archaic mentality we’ve had since we did bedroom development back in the day – you do this, then go on to the next one…There are so many things vying for our interests today. It’s about, how do they want to consume it? Maybe they put it down on level two, and then they’re in work the next day, and some guy says, ‘dude, you’ve got to check out level four!’ And he’s like, ‘okay, I’ll have a quick look.’ That’s totally fine. I think it’s their choice.”
You’d think Blundell would be worried about Black Ops 3’s ending hitting YouTube a couple of hours after the game releases, but he’s totally fine with that: “Sure, people will jump on and play the last level. Okay. Cool. That’s up to them…I don’t think playing the last level will give you everything. You’ll just look at it and go, okay, there’s the last level.”
Black Ops 3 hits the PC, PlayStation and Xbox on November 6. Can you see yourself or your friends using this feature? Let us know in the comments below.
