The virtual reality headset formerly known as Project Morpheus might come with a high price tag when it launches next year. According to Sony’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew House, PlayStation VR could cost as much as the PlayStation 4 you’ll use it with.
In an interview at Tokyo Game Show, House gave a few details on the PlayStation VR headset. Ten playable games including Final Fantasy XIV and RIGS: Machine Combat League were on display at the show, and are expected to be available during the headset’s 2016 launch.
House also stated that PlayStation VR will be priced “as a new gaming platform” but did not specify a cost. Considering that Oculus Rift is expected to cost between $200 and $400 at launch, the competing PlayStation VR could very well fall within this price spectrum. House was asked if the price drop for PlayStation 4 in Japan will come to other countries, but declined a comment.
