Yesterday, EA Star Wars posted a teasing image of an X-Wing along with the text “Prepare for Takeoff.” The image accompanies a comment by EA Star Wars stating, “New mode incoming.” Could we be seeing an important, air-related Star Wars Battlefront announcement this week?
(Optimistic) speculation takes the tease as a 180-degree turn on the omission of space battles in the 2015 return to Battlefront. The EA Star Wars Facebook account, however, reiterated that “We’re focusing on air battles and dogfights that take place on the vistas of our planets rather than space.”
Due to DICE’s previous Battlefield series development, commenters see this tease as the inclusion of the Battlefield mode of Air Superiority. The mode sets dogfighting as a precedence in order to control airborne areas.
As a reminder, there will be no campaign, no “Old New Trilogy” (Episodes I, II, III) maps, and no dedicated space dogfighting for DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront.
Course, with EA Star Wars’ track record of image teasing, we could be in for a surprise. In the past, the Facebook account superimposed two lightsabers and “Two Days…Until E3!” The typical Star Wars iconography was used to build hype for Star Wars Battlefront.
Star Wars Battlefront lifts off in November 17th on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
