Originally released back in the Summer of 2014, Shovel Knight received critical acclaim from both gamers and critics alike for its retro style gameplay and fast paced action. The game was later released on the PlayStation and Xbox systems in 2015 and is now considered one of the finest digital games around.
Shovel Knight was a pretty sizable game with lots to see and do, but if you’re craving more content then there’s good news. The developer of Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games has announced that an expansion for the game is going to be released in a free update which will add Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows story DLC. Plague of Shadows will allow players to play as the Plague Knight in an all new story. The above trailer has been released to give you a taste of what to expect from the update.
New campaigns are also in the works for two other bosses from the game, the Specter Knight and King Knight, though it is unknown when these will be released or whether they will also be free of charge.
It’s great to see a developer release free DLC to fans and we hope this becomes a trend. Many other developers would charge for such an update, and given how successful Shovel Knight was, most people would buy it.
