Ever since the rampant mocking and deadly exploitation of clowns in the ‘90s, clowns are now seen as obsolete entertainers and nightmare fuel. Look no further to Tendershoot and A Jolly Corpse attempting to flip the script and put you in the three-sizes-too-big shoes of Dropsy: A Point & Click Hugventure. Published by ringmaster Devolver Digital, Dropsy lives in a contemporary world where he must win the hearts and hugs of the world to seek acceptance.
In the announcement trailer, we see bald-headed Dropsy go on surreal and obscene adventures: beating up people in chicken suits, falling into the demonic abyss, scaring children, talking to animals, and twerking in clubs. Additionally, the developers make it a point to dump dialogue and text. Through the art style, you will have to solve puzzles with icons and symbols. With all that said, the developer summary of Dropsy: A Point & Click Hugventure takes a lighter tone:
After a deadly circus fire shatters his world and tarnishes his name, Dropsy the Clown finds himself on a journey of self-discovery through a story that harnesses powerful themes of love and unmerited kindness. With his father gravely ill and the world turning its back on the once celebrated clown, Dropsy will need to help those in need, hug total strangers, and unearth dark secrets on the winding road to redemption. Oh, and Dropsy can also talk to animals.
Dropsy: A Point & Click Hugventure will want your hugs (money) on September 10th on PC and Mac for $9.99. It looks like we’ll have some time to ponder the question: “Are clowns worth saving?” Let us know below!
