San Diego Comic Con International has been in full swing during the course of the week sending fans into a frenzy for an ever brighter future of geekdom and pop culture. Thanks to Ubisoft’s presence at San Diego Comic Con, Assassin’s Creed fans were given a special treat with the release a fantastic animated short to whet their appetites for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Syndicate game.
With the story written and directed by F. Gary Gray (whose credits include the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton) and art by Pop Mhan, the animated short tells the story of great and maganimous change that the 1868 Industrial Revolution had brought to the people of London. However, it became soon apparent that the capitalist machine was not kind to all – as it created a social system that fed on the suffering and turmoil of the working class, the poor, and the destitute while a select few hoarded the lion’s share of wealth and riches. Refusing to idly stand by, Jacob and Evie Frye, and the Rooks, give birth to organized crime to tips the scales of balance back into the hands of the people. In this particular vignette, Jacob, Evie, and their allies target the machinations of one corrupt train baron.
The animated short also makes references to prominent gameplay features revealed in prior trailers and press conferences including the usage of cane swords, Jacob Frye’s grapplng hook gauntlet attachment, and recruiting citizens as part of your jolly ol’ gang. Consider me sold – where can I sign up to be a Rook?
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is slated to be released on October 23, 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
