According to a leak of marketing materials, Destiny’s next expansion is called The Taken King. The leak also detailed the release date and what we can expect to see in the expansion.
A tipster sent a large marketing sheet over to the guys at Kotaku, which has been corroborated with other sources. The sheet which lists Destiny’s upcoming expansion as The Taken King offers a ton of details regarding it too. According to the sheet, The Taken King will go on sale for $40 and offers a whole host of extra content to players.
The marketing sheet confirms the existence of a new subclass for each of the game’s three classes: Hunter, Warlock and Titan. Each class will also receive a new elemental super ability: an electrical storm for Warlocks (arc); a flaming hammer for Titans (solar); and a gravity bow for Hunters (void). All of you hardcore Destiny fans out there will realise that each of these abilities focuses on the element each of the classes currently lacks.
As with the previous expansions, The Taken King will provide players with new Strikes, new PvP maps and new exotics too. The most exciting bit however is the inclusion of a new raid, pitting players against Oryx, father of Crota, who is looking for revenge. He isn’t just seeking revenge by himself though, he has a whole new army of minions called the Taken to help him dish it out. For those of you who didn’t play Destiny’s first expansion pack, The Dark Below, Crota was the raid boss player’s faced during their adventures in this expansion.
House of Wolves, last month’s expansion for Destiny, did not include a raid but instead fixed up many of the mistakes that had annoyed players from the first expansion pack. For all you fans craving a new raid in Destiny, according to the leak The Taken King is due to drop September 15th this year.
So how exactly do we know that this leak is legit? Well of course with any leak, not all details will be 100% accurate, or even correct at all. But back in January, a different leak (pictured above) outlined Bungie’s plans for the future of Destiny. This leak gave very brief details regarding an expansion code-named Comet which was set to release in September 2015. As you can see from the image above, the leak didn’t get everything quite right. For example, it detailed that there would be a new raid in House of Wolves and that it would also be due out two months earlier than it actually did.
The name, The Taken King was also outed via trademark registrations and a bit of a slip up by Red Bull….oops. Check out the image below.
Unfortunately Bungie refused to comment on the leak, but that just makes it seem all the more likely they’ll give us the big reveal next week at E3. What’s your opinion on the leak? Do the details of The Taken King get you excited to jump into Destiny once again? Let us know in the comments below.
