Afro Samurai was a fun, albeit flawed hack-and-slasher-that-could that released way back in 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and was based on the anime series of the same name. It was received pretty solidly, and despite a few unnecessary difficulty spikes, was a thoroughly fun romp that blended violent samurai action with hip hop music–some of which came from RZA himself.
However, despite being a pretty solid title it never received a sequel–until now that is. Enter Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma. The game, being developed by Redacted Studios, picks up where the first game left off with a minor twist: instead of playing as the titular samurai you instead don the creepy bear-head of his primary rival Kuma who is bent on revenge against Afro Samurai, his former friend and rival.
The game’s cutscenes look more manga inspired this time around; emphasizing a Sin City-esque black and white color palate–save for the red, red blood, of course. Luckily Afro Samurai 2 doesn’t skimp out on the ultra violence, and the game’s official website even touts the return of the RZA for its soundtrack. Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma is slated to release later this year for PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. It’s been a long time coming, but are you still excited to cut up samurai as a psychotic bear?
