Yep you read the title right. You can play GTA V with a VR headset and treadmill which replicates your movements in the game. Technology is awesome!
The video above shows Virtuix, the creators of the omnidirectional virtual reality treadmill Omni, using the latest treadmill virtual reality technology with GTA V. In the video above we see the player, wearing an Oculus Rift headset and wielding some sort of gun controller, running on the treadmill to move his character around the world of Los Santos. He then proceeds to enter a convenience store and kill the clerk, before proceeding on a rampage of violence outdoors, gunning down civilians and driving of in a car.
Omni treadmill was successfully crowdfunded by Virtuix on Kickstarter raising more than $1 million. If you want to be at the forefront of the VR technology, and have the space, the treadmill is available to preorder for $700 on Virtuix’s website.
The Omni treadmill is one of a number of VR products in their development and tweaking stages and we should be seeing the first of these products hitting the market this year. The Omni treadmill itself currently has an estimated shipping date of August this year.
GTA V has been a huge hit since its first release back in 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Its re-release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One brought a whole host of new features such as first-person mode and updated graphics as well as the hotly anticipated heist online game mode. It’s final release on PC only a few days ago quickly became the most played non-Valve game published on Steam, with more than 300,000 people playing the game at one time. Don’t forget the modding community is going crazy too and are already planning their big project.
