King is the worst long ranged fighter in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. There’s no getting around that fact. He looks cool with that awesome buzzcut and he sometimes takes on the role of the mature leader in Class Zero, but he’s a difficult character to use and his low defense stat doesn’t help matters much. If you’re looking for a long ranged attacker, you’d probably be better off sending in Cater or Trey instead. However, despite his shortcomings, King is still my favorite ranged fighter to use because of the mechanics that come with his gameplay.
Wielding twin revolvers, King can only shoot in a straight line, as compared to Cater who can fire off homing bullets with her Magicite pistol. That means you’ll have to be extra precise when aiming because you’ve got to keep an eye on how much ammo King has left in his magazines as well. His magazine starts out with 12 bullets and you’ll find that it goes pretty fast especially if you’re spamming bullets with him. The first thing you’re going to want to do is purchase Hi-Cap Magazine to increase his revolver clip size so you have more bullets to work with.
Be extra careful when you’re firing off bullets with King because he takes a couple of seconds to reload whenever he’s out. Reloading at the wrong time can cause a lot to go wrong for King. Getting the Reload ability for him should help matters a bit because you’ll at least be able to decide when you want him to reload early. Similarly to Trey, you can also charge up your shots by holding down the attack button when you purchase the Charge ability.
Multitask is another ability that you absolutely must get if you’re planning to use King as one of your main characters. This handy skill allows him to fire his weapon while reloading. Given that he’s completely defenseless while reloading, this skill is extremely invaluable
