The hack and slash horror icon known only as Jason Voorhees, is back in the world of video games for the first time since his 1989 NES title, Friday the 13th.
The new Friday the 13th video game will be a co-operative and competitive multiplayer experience that pits a small group of survivors against the almost unstoppable killing machine that is Jason Voorhees. The game will take classic lore from the film series as well as the upcoming Friday the 13th television series and incorporate that content into the game.
Sean Cunningham, creator of the original Friday the 13th movie and CEO of the multi-media production company, Crystal Lake Entertainment, has announced that the game is being developed by an ‘experienced game studio’ but did not announce which studio.
“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” Cunningham told EGM.
Friday the 13th is currently in development and is slated for release on multiple platforms in October 2015.
