In the fallout of the THQ IP auctions, the Red Faction series, once developed by Volition Games, went to a company named Nordic Games. And since, word of the Mars/revolution based franchise has been nonexistent.
Today, the penultimate installment of the series, the open-world action game with incredible destruction physics Red Faction: Guerrilla, got an unexpected Steam update. Moving from Games With Windows Live, this new Steam version of the game is far more than just a port, however – there is whole new content here. Nordic Games has seen fit to not only fix some complaints of previous PC versions, such as camera control and auto aim, but give Red Faction: Guerrilla brand new multiplayer maps and an additional game mode.
For a game now more than 5 years old, this is some impressive dedication from Nordic Games to the Red Faction series. While Armageddon was met with mixed responses, Red Faction: Guerrilla is one the most underappreciated games of the last generation. Bringing it to a new audience is a fantastic move for fans – and maybe a little bit of hope we will be getting our asses to Mars once again? We shall see.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is available now for $2.99 on Steam.
