2K’s upcoming team-based monster hunting game Evolve is inching ever closer to its release. In the meantime, 2K hopes that feedback from an Xbox One open beta will allow them to stress test the game and give players the chance to try content they haven’t seen before.
The Xbox One open beta will run from January 15-19, 2015. Among the accessible game modes is Evolve’s signature “Hunt” mode with access to the Goliath and Kraken monsters, the first 8 hunters (Markov, Maggie, Val, Hank, Hyde, Griffin, Lazarus, and Bucket), and all 12 “Hunt” maps that the game will launch with. Open Beta players will also have the chance to try out the previously unreleased “Evacuation” mode which is a sort of dynamic campaign that uses all of the maps and modes in what 2K is calling a “unique experience”. Monster and Hunter characters unlocked in the Xbox One open beta will carry over when the game is released.
If you’re wondering who can play the Xbox One open beta, the answer is anyone with an Xbox Live Gold account. Smaller scale technical testing will be going on for PC and PS4 players starting on January 16th and 17th, respectively. In order to participate in the PC and PS4 technical tests, players must have had access to Evolve’s Big Alpha back in October. On PC, players who have Left 4 Dead or BioShock Infinite in their Steam libraries will also gain access. These tests are more limited in scope and will not include the Evacuation game mode or have Hunter and Monster unlocks carry over.
Evolve is slated for release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 10th.
