The launch for Nintendo’s amiibo figures are fast approaching, and new details about the figures continue to trickle-down. This time, the Nintendo’s Japanese amiibo site for the figures has revealed that each amiibo can only hold data from one game at a time.
This means that a Link amiibo, which is compatible with both Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, will only be able to store data for one of those two titles at a time.
However, it is interesting to note that only Super Smash Bros. actively stores data into the amiibo, while games like Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8 simply use the amiibo presence to unlock in-game content. A whole bunch of titles including Kirby and Captain Toad will be amiibo compatible but so far only Super Smash Bros. has actual data transferring into the figures. This could free up the potential limitations of storage in the amiibo figures.
While it is a serious issue if only one amiibo can be used to store data for a particular game at any given time, we’ll have to wait until Nintendo announces its full slate of amiibo compatible titles to get a full picture of the situation. Most likely however, this is simply a tactic to get people to buy more and more amiibos which at this rate, is probably what will happen.
